San Juan

Just a quick post to say hello from San Juan. With about a month left in my contract out here I can definitely say I am looking forward to the week off before I join the Westerdam for a month. The question is, where to go on my vacation following the Westerdam? I was contemplating Toronto for a couple of days... Then again, there's ALWAYS Vegas... Up in the air!

How About Them Apples?

I'd like to be able to tell you that the last few days have been eventful but, in reality, they haven't. They have been blissfully boring with relatively few phone calls or distractions. People have asked me why I don't necessarily do anything when I'm on vacation or why I have such long vacations. Firstly, I do do things on my vacations - I spend time visiting Orlando and Las Vegas, I go out to the country and visit with my parents and I have friends come and visit me from out of town.

The second question is often one that I have to lay out plainly for your average joe who does 9-5 monday through friday. I work seven days a week, there are no weekends, there are no days off and so when I do take my break it's nice to enjoy that time that I would normally have gotten in the form of a weekend.

On that note, it won't be long now (relatively speaking) until I'm back on the ship and working. Until then, I plan on enjoying the remainder of my time on land doing very little. How about them apples?

More Inane Ramblings

Today wraps up another weekend with the boys visiting Montreal from Ottawa. I would link to their profiles here but they're not really that big into the whole social media scene; strange, I know. This weekend marks the end of all planned events before I head back to work in a little less than a month. That's right, it's a tough life, I'll be flying out from Montreal to Barcelona to join the MS Nieuw Amsterdam for several months which may or may not include the Christmas Holidays.

I have to admit that I could probably do without the extra three weeks of vacation. Wait a minute, who wrote that... and what have they done with JT? No really, as shocking as it is I'm actually kind of itching to get back to work. I'm sure that will change after we get back to the Caribbean though. The change of sentiments has nothing to do with the location just that it's exponentially more work on a 7-day itinerary. It's all part and parcel with the job though!

Yes, I realize this has been a rambling post about relatively little but hey, that's what I do here right? Oh and if any of my friends want to check out Cowboys vs. Aliens on friday - text me and we'll sort something out!

Peace Outs and Pork Bellies

It's my last day "in the country" at my parent's home and I'm a little torn. I really like this place though I try to avoid the deer flies as much as possible. I'm headed someplace awesome too though - the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe Vermont has been my quiet vacation spot for as long as I can remember. Literally, I have no memory prior to this place...

The occasion for heading to Vermont is two fold - the usual relaxation vacation but toward the end of the week my sister will be getting married. That's right, tying the knot to a decent guy from Newfoundland (I know, I know). All in all I think it'll be a great week; I make no promises of any kind of updates but if the opportunity arises I'll post something.

As for the other half of my post title... pork bellies... I'm pretty sure that because it's essentially bacon, any meal can be improved by adding pork belly. I defy you to prove me wrong!

Great Scott, Blow Something Up

Just a quick post to wish all of my friends south of the border in America a very happy independence day; I hope that you've all gotten your festivities ready to go which is to say you have your explosives, your booze and your BBQ. While I'm mentioning anniversaries I should probably also give a big old shout out to Back to the Future which is celebrating the big 26 today. That's right I just lumped Independence Day in with the 26th Anniversary of Back to the Future (let the hate mail flow).
